Stable Diffusion XL Lightning is a fast text-to-image generation model from Stability AI, using adversarial distillation to produce high-quality images in just 1-4 steps instead of the typical 20-50. It maintains much of the quality of the full SDXL model while dramatically reducing generation time.

The model produces detailed 1024x1024 images with good prompt adherence, handling diverse subjects, styles, and compositions. The Lightning approach uses an adversarial training process that teaches the model to generate good results in fewer denoising steps, trading a small amount of quality for a massive speed improvement.
